Multiple Counts III – Proportions and Cost
Adding prices to the proportion method: the mean hank price and the price of the mixed yarn per 10 lb.
SUMPRODUCTMean hank priceCost of mix
Costing a yarn mixture
- Convert each price per 10 lb into a hank price: price ÷ 10 ÷ Ne.
- Weight the hank prices by the number of threads: mean hank price = Σ(threads × hank price) ÷ Σ threads — Excel’s SUMPRODUCT.
- Find the mean count exactly as in Lecture 3.
- Price of the mixture per 10 lb = mean hank price × mean count × 10.

With both yarns at Ne 30, the mean count stays 30 and the price (511.04) is simply the thread-weighted average of 515 and 460. Change yarn C to 10 threads of Ne 20 at Rs 430 to see count and price move together.
