Review of Weaving Calculations II

Loom production per day, B-grade adjustment, sizing and packing cost — the variable production cost of one metre of grey fabric.

Production of a loom

An air-jet loom at 800 rpm inserting 60 picks per inch at 90% efficiency makes 12 inches a minute: 800 × 0.9 ÷ 60. Per day that is 480 yd; 1% of it is B-grade, so 475 yd of A-grade — 435 m. Sizing is paid per kg of sized warp; packing per metre; B-grade fetches a lower price that comes back as a small credit.
