(ف) ظَهَرَ يَظْهَرُ ظُهُوْرًاẓahara yaẓharu ẓuhūran: for something to become manifest (the opposite of khafāʾ, concealment). It has four uses: (1) to appear (2) to climb — in this sense it is transitive and takes its direct object directly (3) to prevail — in this sense it takes the preposition عَليٰʿalyā (4) to become acquainted with something, i.e. to come to know a secret — for this too it takes the preposition عَليٰʿalyā; the two are distinguished by the context.

ظَاهِرٌẓāhir (active participle, ism fāʿil): manifest, open.
