(ن) كَهَنَ يَكْهُنُ كِهَانَةًkahana yakhunu kihānatan: to claim to give news of the unseen, to practise soothsaying.
كَاهِنkāhin pl. كَهَنَة وَكُهَّانkahanah wa-kuhhān (active participle, ism fāʿil): soothsayer, diviner. Twice in the Quran, both times in denial of this accusation against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): ﴿فَذَكِّرْ فَمَاۤ أَنْتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَّلَا مَجْنُوْنٍ﴾ (Aṭ-Ṭūr 52:29) and ﴿وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ قَلِيْلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُوْنَ﴾ (Al-Ḥāqqah 69:42).
