ز ق مz-q-m

— زَقُّوْمٌzaqqūm: a tree of Hell whose fruit will be the food of its inmates; the lexicographers say the original sense is of forcing down a foul-tasting thing (تَزَقَّمَ الطَّعَامَtazaqqama aṭ-ṭaʿāma = he swallowed with loathing). Three times in the Quran: ﴿اَذٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُّزُلًا اَمْ شَجَرَةُ الزَّقُّوْمِ﴾ (Aṣ-Ṣāffāt 37:62); ﴿اِنَّ شَجَرَتَ الزَّقُّوْمِ ۝ طَعَامُ الْاَثِيْمِ﴾ (Ad-Dukhān 44:43–44); ﴿لَاٰكِلُوْنَ مِنْ شَجَرٍ مِّنْ زَقُّوْمٍ﴾ (Al-Wāqiʿah 56:52)
