— زُمْرَةٌzumrah pl. زُمَرٌzumar: a group; a band; the lexicographers say the original sense is of sound and of being driven along (مِزْمَارmizmār = flute), and a zumrah is a group that is driven along. Twice in the Quran, both times at the end of Sūrat al-Zumar with «سِيْقَsīqa» — and from it the sūrah takes its name: ﴿وَسِيْقَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْٓا اِلٰى جَهَنَّمَ زُمَرًا﴾ (Az-Zumar 39:71); ﴿وَسِيْقَ الَّذِيْنَ اتَّقَوْا رَبَّهُمْ اِلَي الْجَنَّةِ زُمَرًا﴾ (Az-Zumar 39:73)
