ز ج جz-j-j
(ن) زَجَّ يَزُجُّ زَجًّاzajja yazujju zajjan: to throw, to strike with the point of a spear; زُجٌّzujj pl. زِجَاجٌzijāj: the butt end of a spear.
زُجَاجٌzujāj (generic noun, ism jins), singular زُجَاجَةٌzujājah: glass, a glass vessel or lamp — the lexicographers say it was so named for its clarity and for letting light pass through. ﴿اَلْمِصْبَاحُ فِيْ زُجَاجَةٍ ۭ اَلزُّجَاجَةُ كَاَنَّهَا كَوْكَبٌ دُرِّيٌّ﴾ (An-Nūr 24:35)
زَجَّاجٌzajjāj (on the pattern of فَعَّالٌfaʿʿāl, for a trade): glassmaker.
