وَكِيْلٌwakīl (on the pattern فَعِيْلٌfaʿīl, in the sense of a passive participle, ism mafʿūl): one to whom (a matter) has been entrusted; disposer of affairs, guardian.

Form II (tafʿīl) وَكَّلَ يُوَكِّلُ تَوْكِيْلًاwakkala yuwakkilu tawkīlan: to appoint someone as guardian and agent (over a matter).

Form V (tafaʿʿul) تَوَكَّلَ يَتَوَكَّلُ تَوَكُّلًاtawakkala yatawakkalu tawakkulan: in the Quran with the preposition "عَلٰىʿalā": to rely on someone; مُتَوَكِّلٌmutawakkil pl. مُتَوَكِّلُوْنَmutawakkilūna (active participle, ism fāʿil): one who relies. ﴿وَمَنْ يَّتَوَكَّلْ عَلَي اللّٰهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُۥ﴾ (Aṭ-Ṭalāq 65:3); ﴿اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَوَكِّلِيْنَ﴾ (Āl ʿImrān 3:159) — Note: in the Quran the technical sense of توكّلtwkkl and its derivatives is reliance upon God, whether or not "عَلَي اللّٰهِʿalā al-lāh" is mentioned; just as the technical sense of "infāq" is spending in the way of God, whether or not "فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللّٰهِfī sabīli al-lāh" is mentioned.
