ص م دṣ-m-d
(ن) صَمَدَ يَصْمُدُ صَمْدًاṣamada yaṣmudu ṣamdan: to make for someone and turn towards him alone; also to be solid and full, with no hollow inside.
الصَّمَدaṣ-ṣamad: the exegetes have mentioned both meanings, and both befit the majesty of God: (1) the One to whom recourse is had in every need, and (2) the One who is solid and self-sufficient, in whom there is no deficiency or void. Only once in the Quran: ﴿اللّٰهُ الصَّمَدُ﴾ (Al-Ikhlāṣ 112:2).
