ص ل لṣ-l-l
(ض) صَلَّ يَصِلُّ صَلِيْلًاṣalla yaṣillu ṣalīlan: (1) of a thing, to make a sound (2) of a thing, to rot.
صَلَّالٌṣallāl (adjective on the pattern of فَعَّالٌfaʿʿāl): rotted dry clay that rings, i.e. makes a sound; in the Quran it occurs as صَلْصَالٌṣalṣāl, with one of its lāms changed to ṣād (see ṣ l ṣ l). ﴿خَلَقَ الْاِنْسَانَ مِنْ صَلْصَالٍ كَالْفَخَّارِ﴾ (Ar-Raḥmān 55:14)
