(ن، ض) رَفَثَ يَرْفُثُrafatha yarfuthu / يَرْفِثُ رَفَثًاyarfithu rafathan: to talk freely and without restraint; the basic sense is open, unveiled talk about matters relating to women. This root occurs in only two places in the Quran, and only as a noun.
اَلرَّفَثُar-rafath (1) relations with one's wives; here it occurs with اِلٰىilā as its complement, and conjugal relations are meant: ﴿اُحِلَّ لَكُمْ لَيْلَةَ الصِّيَامِ الرَّفَثُ اِلٰى نِسَآئِكُمْ﴾ (Al-Baqarah 2:187)
اَلرَّفَثُar-rafath (2) unrestrained talk in the state of iḥrām: ﴿فَلَا رَفَثَ وَلَا فُسُوْقَ وَلَا جِدَالَ فِي الْحَجِّ﴾ (Al-Baqarah 2:197)
