(ض) حَرَصَ يَحْرِصُ حِرْصًاḥaraṣa yaḥriṣu ḥirṣan: the basic meaning is "to strip completely", for example "حَرَصَتِ الْمَاشِيَةُ الْمَرْعٰىḥaraṣati al-māshiyat al-marʿā" (the cattle stripped the pasture bare, i.e. left nothing); thus the basic sense is of intensity and excess of intent. With the preposition "عَلٰىʿalā" it means: to be very desirous of, to have an intense longing for, to be ardently solicitous for; for example "حَرَصَ عَلَي الرَّجُلِḥaraṣa ʿalā ar-rajul" (he strove hard for the man's benefit and good). ﴿وَمَآ اَكْثَرُ النَّاسِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتَ بِمُؤْمِنِيْنَ﴾ (Yūsuf 12:103)
حَرِيْصٌḥarīṣ (qualificative adjective, ṣifah mushabbahah): one who desires intensely. ﴿حَرِيْصٌ عَلَيْكُمْ﴾ (At-Tawbah 9:128)
اَحْرَصُaḥraṣu (elative, اَفْعَلُafʿalu al-tafḍīl): most covetous of all. ﴿وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمْ اَحْرَصَ النَّاسِ عَلٰى حَيٰوةٍ﴾ (Al-Baqarah 2:96)
