/ h-ā-t — (ن) هَتَا يَهْتُوْhatā yahtū: to trample something.
هَاتِhāti pl. هَاتُوْاhātūā (inert imperative, fiʿl jāmid): bring!, produce!, hand over!; it carries the sense of an immediate demand (produce it here and now). According to some of the lexicographers its original form was «āti» (from Form IV, bāb ifʿāl), the hamzah then being changed to «hāʾ». ﴿قُلْ هَاتُوْا بُرْهَانَكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِيْنَ﴾ (Al-Baqarah 2:111); ﴿قُلْ هَاتُوْا بُرْهَانَكُمْ هٰذَا ذِكْرُ مَنْ مَّعِيَ﴾ (Al-Anbiyāʾ 21:24) Note: the «هَيْتَhayta» of ﴿وَقَالَتْ هَيْتَ لَكَ﴾ (Yūsuf 12:23) is not from this root but is a verbal interjection (ism fiʿl) meaning: come!
