ض ھ یḍ-h-y

(ف) ضَهٰى يَضْهٰى ضَهْيًاḍahā yaḍhā ḍahyan: of land, to be barren (this verb is not used in the Quran).

Form III (mufāʿalah) ضَاهٰى يُضَاهِيْ مُضَاهَاةًḍāhā yuḍāhī muḍāhātan: to resemble someone. Analysis: on this view the root of يُضَاهِـُٔوْنَyuḍāhiـٔwna is «ḍ h y»; from it the imperfect (muḍāriʿ) of form mufāʿalah would be يُضَاهُوْنَyuḍāhūna, but in our reading it is recited يُضَاهِـُٔوْنَyuḍāhiـٔwna, so its hamzah is not radical. ﴿يُضَاهِـُٔوْنَ قَوْلَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا مِنْ قَبْلُ﴾ (At-Tawbah 9:30) (see ḍ h ʾ)
