د م وd-m-w

— دَمdam pl. دِمَاءdimāʾ: blood. The original form is دَمَوٌdamaw or دَمَيٌdamay, with the third radical elided, which is why it reappears in the dual دَمَوَانdamawān and the plural دِمَاءdimāʾ. Ten times in the Quran: ﴿حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَيْتَةُ وَالدَّمُ﴾ (Al-Māʾidah 5:3); ﴿وَجَآءُوْ عَلٰى قَمِيْصِهِۦ بِدَمٍ كَذِبٍ﴾ (Yūsuf 12:18)Plural دِمَاءdimāʾ. ﴿وَيَسْفِكُ الدِّمَآءَ﴾ (Al-Baqarah 2:30)
