د ن رd-n-r
— دِيْنَارdīnār pl. دَنَانِيْرdanānīr: a gold coin; the original form was دِنَّارdinnār; the nūn was changed to yāʾ (which is why the nūn returns in the plural). The lexicographers say it is of Greek/Roman origin معرّبmuʿarrab. Only once in the Quran, in the account of the difference among the People of the Book in trustworthiness: ﴿وَمِنْهُمْ مَّنْ اِنْ تَاْمَنْهُ بِدِيْنَارٍ لَّا يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ اِلَيْكَ﴾ (Āl ʿImrān 3:75)
