(س) عَيِيَ يَعْيَيٰ عِيًّاʿayiya yaʿyā ʿiyyan: to be unable, to be worn out, to be at a loss over some task; also to be unable to speak (hence عَيِيٌّʿayiyy, i.e. dumb or tongue-tied). Twice in the Quran, both times in affirmation of the power of Allah: ﴿وَلَمْ يَعْيَ بِخَلْقِهِنَّ﴾ (Al-Aḥqāf 46:33) and ﴿أَفَعَيِيْنَا بِالْخَلْقِ الْأَوَّلِ﴾ (Qāf 50:15).
