ا ن فʾ-n-f

(س) اَنِفَ يَاْنَفُ اَنَفًاanifa yānafu anafan: (1) to be self-respecting, to brook no slight. (2) to turn up one's nose. Hence أَنَفَةanafah (sense of honour, self-respect).

أَنْفٌanf pl. آنُفٌ وَأُنُوْفٌānuf wa-ʾunūf: nose; also the beginning of anything, as the summit of a mountain. Since among the Arabs the nose was regarded as the seat of honour and pride, the sense of self-respect derives from it. ﴿وَالْاَنْفَ بِالْاَنْفِ﴾ (Al-Māʾidah 5:45)

اٰنِفًاanifan (active participle (ism fāʿil), in the accusative because it is adverbial): at the start, just now, a little while ago. ﴿مَاذَا قَالَ اٰنِفًا﴾ (Muḥammad 47:16)
