(ض) وَطَنَ يَطِنُ وَطْنًاwaṭana yaṭinu wa-ṭnan (original form: وَطَنَ يَوْطِنُwaṭana yawṭinu): to stay in a place and make it one's abode. (This verb is not used in the Quran.)
مَوْطِنٌmawṭin pl. مَوَاطِنُmawāṭinu (noun of time or place, ẓarf): a place of staying; a position on the battlefield. Only once in the Quran, in the context of the Battle of Ḥunayn: ﴿لَقَدْ نَصَرَكُمُ اللّٰهُ فِيْ مَوَاطِنَ كَثِيْرَةٍ﴾ (At-Tawbah 9:25) — Note: "مَوَاطِنَmawāṭina" is a diptote (ghayr munṣarif) because it is on the pattern of the ultimate plural (ṣīghat muntahā al-jumūʿ), which is why it is genitive (majrūr) with a fatḥah.
