ص ر عṣ-r-ʿ
(ف) صَرَعَ يَصْرَعُ صَرْعًاṣaraʿa yaṣraʿu ṣarʿan: to throw down, to fell to the ground.
صَرِيْعٌṣarīʿ pl. صَرْعٰىṣarʿā (pattern فَعِيْلٌfaʿīl, plural فَعْلٰىfaʿlā): felled, lying in heaps — this is the same pattern as in قَتِيْلٌqatīl ⟵ قَتْلٰىqatlā and مَرِيْضٌmarīḍ ⟵ مَرْضٰىmarḍā, and it denotes being stricken by calamity. Only once in the Quran, in the account of the end of the people of ʿĀd: ﴿فَتَرَي الْقَوْمَ فِيْهَا صَرْعٰى كَاَنَّهُمْ اَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ﴾ (Al-Ḥāqqah 69:7)
