ر س سr-s-s
— رَسّrass: an old well that has caved in, or a well into which something has been thrown. «اَصْحٰبُ الرَّسِّaṣḥābu ar-rass» is the name of a people, about whom the exegetes have several differing reports. The lexicographers say the basic sense is the first trace of a thing, or digging and burying. Twice in the Quran, both times in the same construction: ﴿وَّعَادًا وَّثَمُوْدَا۠ وَاَصْحٰبَ الرَّسِّ﴾ (Al-Furqān 25:38); ﴿وَّاَصْحٰبُ الرَّسِّ وَثَمُوْدُ﴾ (Qāf 50:12)
