ق د حq-d-ḥ

(ف) قَدَحَ يَقْدَحُ قَدْحًاqadaḥa yaqdaḥu qadḥan: to strike fire from flint, to produce sparks by striking.

قَدْحqadḥ: striking sparks. The lexicographers say that from this also comes «قَدْح فِي النَّسَبqadḥ fī an-nasab», i.e. casting aspersions on someone's lineage. Only once in the Quran, in the description of sparks struck by horses' hooves: ﴿فَالْمُوْرِيَاتِ قَدْحًا﴾ (Al-ʿĀdiyāt 100:2).
