— مَجُوْسmajūs: fire-worshippers, Magians; most of the lexicographers hold it to be of Persian origin, from معرّبmuʿarrab. Only once in the Quran, in the enumeration of the six groups between whom God will judge on the Day of Resurrection: ﴿إِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ آمَنُوْا وَالَّذِيْنَ هَادُوْا وَالصَّابِئِيْنَ وَالنَّصَارٰى وَالْمَجُوْسَ وَالَّذِيْنَ أَشْرَكُوْۤا إِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ﴾ (Al-Ḥajj 22:17).
