ل م مl-m-m
(ن) لَمَّ يَلُمُّ لَمًّاlamma yalummu lamman (original form: لَمَمَ يَلْمُمُlamama yalmumu): to gather up, to collect.
لَمّlamm: to sweep up for oneself.
لَمَمlamam: a minor sin, a lapse into which a person occasionally falls without persisting in it — the lexicographers say that the original sense is that of passing close by. Four times in the Quran: ﴿وَتَأْكُلُوْنَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا﴾ (Al-Fajr 89:19) — i.e. devouring by sweeping everything up; and ﴿الَّذِيْنَ يَجْتَنِبُوْنَ كَبَائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ﴾ (An-Najm 53:32).
