ل ف حl-f-ḥ
(ف) لَفَحَ يَلْفَحُ لَفْحًاlafaḥa yalfaḥu lafḥan: (of fire or a hot wind) to scorch the face. The lexicographers state the difference between نَفْحnafḥ and لَفْحlafḥ thus: lafḥ is more intense and scorching. Only once in the Quran: ﴿تَلْفَحُ وُجُوْهَهُمُ النَّارُ وَهُمْ فِيْهَا كَالِحُوْنَ﴾ (Al-Muʾminūn 23:104).
