(ن) خَطَا يَخْطُوْ خَطْوًاkhaṭā yakhṭū khaṭwan: to take a step, to walk.
خُطْوَةkhuṭwah pl. خُطُوٰتkhuṭūt: step, stride. «ittibāʿ khuṭuwāt al-shayṭān», i.e. following in the footsteps of Satan — a fixed Quranic idiom. Five times in the Quran, every time in this very construction: ﴿وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوْا خُطُوٰتِ الشَّيْطٰنِ﴾ (Al-Baqarah 2:168, Al-Anʿām 6:142, An-Nūr 24:21)
