خ م طkh-m-ṭ
— خَمْطkhamṭ: foul-tasting, bitter fruit; some have said it is the fruit of the arāk (toothbrush) tree, others any tree that has thorns and tasteless fruit. The lexicographers say the basic sense is of sourness and foul taste. Only once in the Quran, in the account of how the gardens of the people of Sabaʾ were changed: ﴿جَنَّتَيْنِ ذَوَاتَيْ اُكُلٍ خَمْطٍ﴾ (Sabaʾ 34:16)
