خ د نkh-d-n
— not used from the bare triliteral.
خِدْنkhidn pl. اَخْدَانakhdān: secret friend, a paramour with whom one has a clandestine relationship. The lexicographers say that خِدْنkhidn is used specifically for an illicit and hidden relationship, which is why the Quran uses it when speaking of forbidden relations. Twice in the Quran, both times in the plural and both times in the context of chastity: ﴿وَّلَا مُتَّخِذٰتِ اَخْدَانٍ﴾ (An-Nisāʾ 4:25); ﴿وَلَا مُتَّخِذِيْٓ اَخْدَانٍ﴾ (Al-Māʾidah 5:5)
