— كُرْسِيّkursiyy pl. كَرَاسِيّkarāsiyy: a throne, a seat; the lexicographers say the original sense is the joining and gathering of parts (كَرَاسَةkarāsah, i.e. bound leaves). Twice in the Quran: ﴿وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ﴾ (Al-Baqarah 2:255) and ﴿وَأَلْقَيْنَا عَلٰى كُرْسِيِّهِۦ جَسَدًا﴾ (Ṣād 38:34).
