(ن) كَنَسَ يَكْنُسُ كُنُوْسًاkanasa yaknusu kunūsan: to hide away, to withdraw into one's lair (كِنَاسkinās is the lair in which a gazelle hides).
كَانِسkānis pl. كُنَّسkunnas (active participle, ism fāʿil): those that hide away — meaning the stars that disappear by day; together with "الْخُنَّسal-khunnas" it forms two aspects of a single scene. Only once in the Quran: ﴿فَلَاۤ أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ﴾ (At-Takwīr 81:15–16).
