ح ی رḥ-y-r

(ض) حَيَرَ يَحْيِرُḥayara yaḥyiru (original form) ⟵ حَارَ يَحِيْرُ حَيْرَةً وَحَيَرَانًاḥāra yaḥīru ḥayratan wa-ḥayarānan: to be bewildered, to stop short in confusion, to be unable to find the way.

حَيْرَانḥayrān (pattern فَعْلَانfaʿlān): utterly bewildered and wandering — this pattern is used for a state that takes over one's whole being. Only once in the Quran: ﴿كَالَّذِي اسْتَهْوَتْهُ الشَّيٰطِيْنُ فِي الْاَرْضِ حَيْرَانَ﴾ (Al-Anʿām 6:71)
