ح ی ضḥ-y-ḍ

(ض) حَيَضَ يَحْيِضُḥayaḍa yaḥyiḍu (original form) ⟵ حَاضَتْ تَحِيْضُ حَيْضًاḥāḍat taḥīḍu ḥayḍan: of a woman, to be in her monthly period.

مَحِيْضmaḥīḍ: can be both a mīmī verbal noun (maṣdar mīmī) and a noun of time or place (ẓarf) — i.e. menstruation, and the place of menstruation; on this basis the exegetes have given two meanings of the verse. This root occurs 4 times in the Quran.
