ح ر جḥ-r-j
(س) حَرِجَ يَحْرَجُ حَرَجًاḥarija yaḥraju ḥarajan: to be narrow, to be constricted; the original sense is of a thicket of trees so dense that it cannot be entered. This root occurs 15 times in the Quran.
حَرَجḥaraj (noun, ism dhāt): narrowness, difficulty, sin (because sin constricts the breast).
