(quadriliteral, rubāʿī) — حَنْجَرَةḥanjarah pl. حَنَاجِرḥanājir: the windpipe, the part of the throat through which the breath passes. «bulūgh al-qulūb al-ḥanājir» (the hearts reaching the throats) is an Arabic idiom for extreme fear: the heart leaping up and sticking in the throat. Twice in the Quran: ﴿وَبَلَغَتِ الْقُلُوْبُ الْحَنَاجِرَ﴾ (Al-Aḥzāb 33:10); ﴿اِذِ الْقُلُوْبُ لَدَي الْحَنَاجِرِ كٰظِمِيْنَ﴾ (Ghāfir 40:18)
