ح د قḥ-d-q
— حَدِيْقَةḥadīqah pl. حَدَائِقḥadāʾiq: a garden enclosed by a wall; the lexicographers say that not every bustān is a ḥadīqah — a ḥadīqah is only one that is enclosed — and from the same root comes حَدَقَةḥadaqah (the pupil of the eye), because it is enclosed by the eyelids. Three times in the Quran, each time in the plural: ﴿وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلْبًا﴾ (ʿAbasa 80:30); ﴿حَدَآئِقَ وَاَعْنَابًا﴾ (An-Nabaʾ 78:32); ﴿فَاَنْۢبَتْنَا بِهِۦ حَدَآئِقَ ذَاتَ بَهْجَةٍ﴾ (An-Naml 27:60)
