ھ ی جh-y-j

(ض) هَاجَ يَهِيْجُ هَيْجًا وَهِيَاجًاhāja yahīju hayjan wa-hiyājan (original form: هَيَجَhayaja): to be stirred up, to flare up; and of crops: to dry up, turn yellow and wither. The lexicographers say the link between the two senses is that of "turning from one's state". Twice in the Quran, both times in the parable of the life of this world: ﴿ثُمَّ يَهِيْجُ فَتَرَاهُ مُصْفَرًّا ثُمَّ يَكُوْنُ حُطَامًا﴾ (Al-Ḥadīd 57:20) and ﴿ثُمَّ يَهِيْجُ فَتَرَاهُ مُصْفَرًّا﴾ (Al-Ḥadīd 57:20).
