ھ ج عh-j-ʿ
(ف) هَجَعَ يَهْجَعُ هُجُوْعًاhajaʿa yahjaʿu hujūʿan: to sleep at night, to take sleep.
هَاجِعhājiʿ: asleep. The lexicographers say that هُجُوْعhujūʿ is used specifically for sleep at night. Only once in the Quran, in the description of the God-fearing: ﴿كَانُوْا قَلِيْلًا مِّنَ الَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُوْنَ﴾ (Adh-Dhāriyāt 51:17) — i.e. they used to sleep little at night. Note: the verb form (bāb) is determined from the Quranic form «يَهْجَعُوْنَyahjaʿūna».
