(ض) غَاثَ يَغِيْثُ غَيْثًاghātha yaghīthu ghaythan (original form: غَيَثَ يَغْيِثُghayatha yaghyithu): to send down rain. (This verb is not used in the Quran.)
غَيْثٌghayth (also a noun (ism dhāt)): rain, especially the rain that comes as a mercy after drought. ﴿وَهُوَ الَّذِيْ يُنَزِّلُ الْغَيْثَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِ مَا قَنَطُوْا﴾ (Ash-Shūrā 42:28); ﴿كَمَثَلِ غَيْثٍ اَعْجَبَ الْكُفَّارَ نَبَاتُهُۥ﴾ (Al-Ḥadīd 57:20) Note: the lexicographers take the «يُغَاثُyughāthu» of ﴿ثُمَّ يَاْتِيْ مِنْۢ بَعْدِ ذٰلِكَ عَامٌ فِيْهِ يُغَاثُ النَّاسُ﴾ (Yūsuf 12:49) both from this root (that is, they will be given rain) and from gh-w-th (that is, they will be given relief).
