غ و لgh-w-l
(ن) غَالَ يَغُوْلُ غَوْلًاghāla yaghūlu ghawlan (original form: غَوَلَghawala): to destroy suddenly, to seize unawares.
غَوْلghawl: harm that comes without warning; in the context of wine the meaning is that it causes no giddiness and does not take away the reason. From the same root are «غُوْلghūl» (a ghoul) and «اغْتِيَالaghtiyāl» (secret murder). Only once in the Quran, in the description of the wine of Paradise: ﴿لَا فِيْهَا غَوْلٌ وَّلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنْزَفُوْنَ﴾ (Aṣ-Ṣāffāt 37:47).
