غ ل وgh-l-w
(ن) غَلَا يَغْلُوْ غُلُوًّاghalā yaghlū ghuluwwan (original form: غَلَوَ يَغْلُوُghalawa yaghluwu): to exceed the bounds; the original sense is to shoot an arrow to the farthest distance, hence to exaggerate and go to excess in a matter. ﴿يٰٓاَهْلَ الْكِتٰبِ لَا تَغْلُوْا فِيْ دِيْنِكُمْ﴾ (An-Nisāʾ 4:171); also (al-Māʾidah 5:77). Note: the «غَلْيghaly» (to boil, to seethe) of ﴿كَغَلْيِ الْحَمِيْمِ﴾ (Ad-Dukhān 44:46) is from the root gh-l-y, not from this root.
