ف ن نf-n-n
— فَنّfann pl. أَفْنَان وَفُنُوْنafnān wa-funūn: kind, variety; and فَنَنfanan pl. أَفْنَانafnān: branch, bough. The exegetes have mentioned both meanings in «ذَوَاتَاۤ أَفْنَانٍdhawātā afnān»: two gardens with dense branches, or with varied kinds of bounties. The lexicographers say that the link between the two is that branches too are varieties sprung from one stock. Only once in the Quran: ﴿ذَوَاتَاۤ أَفْنَانٍ﴾ (Ar-Raḥmān 55:48).
