(ن) بَسَلَ يَبْسُلُ بَسْلًاbasala yabsulu baslan: to hold someone back from his need. The lexicographers say the original sense is to restrain and to forbid (بَاسِلbāsil: stern, forbidden; hence بَسَالَةbasālah, i.e. bravery).
Form IV (ifʿāl) أَبْسَلَ يُبْسِلُ اِبْسَالًاabsala yubsilu ibsālan: to give someone over to destruction or seizure, to pledge as security. Twice in the Quran, both times in the passive voice: ﴿أَنْ تُبْسَلَ نَفْسٌ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ﴾ (Al-Anʿām 6:70); ﴿أُوْلٰئِكَ الَّذِيْنَ أُبْسِلُوْا بِمَا كَسَبُوْا﴾ (Al-Anʿām 6:70)
