ب ر اb-r-ʾ

(س) بَرِئَ يَبْرَأُ بَرَاءَةًbariʾa yabraʾu barāʾatan: to be rid of something troublesome, to be quit of it.

بَرِيْٓءٌbarīʾ (active participle (ism fāʿil) on the pattern faʿīl): quit, free of, innocent.

بَرَاءَةٌbarāʾah (noun, ism dhāt): disavowal, declaration of immunity.

Form II (tafʿīl) بَرَّاَ يُبَرِّئُ تَبْرِئَةًbarraʾa yubarriʾu tabriʾatan: to clear of an accusation, to acquit.

Form V (tafaʿʿul) تَبَرَّاَ يَتَبَرَّاُ تَبَرُّؤًاtabarraʾa yatabarraʾu tabarruʾan: to declare one's disavowal.

Form IV (ifʿāl) اَبْرَاَ يُبْرِئُ اِبْرَاءًabraʾa yubriʾu ibrāʾan: to cure of a disease.

(ف) بَرَاَ يَبْرَاُ بَرْءًاbaraʾa yabraʾu barʾan: to cleave, to bring from non-existence into existence. Agent (fāʿil) بَارِئٌbāriʾ; passive participle on the pattern faʿīlah بَرِيَّةbariyyah. The sense of «barʾ» is close to that of the word khalq: khalq means preparing the outline (design) of a thing, «barʾ» means putting it in proper order, and taṣwīr means completing it. In this respect, although there is a fine distinction between khāliq and bārī, in common usage the two are used interchangeably.
