ب ح ثb-ḥ-th
(ف) بَحَثَ يَبْحَثُ بَحْثًاbaḥatha yabḥathu baḥthan: to dig the earth in search of something, to scratch about; hence the sense of searching and investigating. Only once in the Quran: ﴿فَبَعَثَ اللّٰهُ غُرَابًا يَّبْحَثُ فِي الْأَرْضِ﴾ (Al-Māʾidah 5:31) — i.e. كوّاkwwā was scratching the ground. Note: the verb form (bāb) is determined from this Quranic imperfect (muḍāriʿ) «يَبْحَثُyabḥathu».
Form III (mufāʿalah) بَاحَثَ يُبَاحِثُ مُبَاحَثَةًbāḥatha yubāḥithu mubāḥathatan: to discuss with someone; to exchange views with one another (this verb is not used in the Quran).
