— عِزَةʿizah pl. عِزُوْنʿizūn: separate bands, scattered groups; the original form is عِزْوَةʿizwah, with the final radical (lām al-kalimah) elided, which is why it reappears in the plural. The lexicographers say the original sense is that of attributing to someone (عَزَاهُ إِلٰى أَبِيْهِʿazāhu ilā abīhi), and each band has its own separate attribution. Only once in the Quran: ﴿عَنِ الْيَمِيْنِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِيْنَ﴾ (Al-Maʿārij 70:37).
