ع ث یʿ-th-y
(س) عَثِيَ يَعْثٰى عُثِيًّا وَعَثَيَانًاʿathiya yaʿthā ʿuthiyyan wa-ʿathayānan: to spread corruption; to cause extreme mischief and go beyond all bounds in oppression and rebellion. ﴿وَلَا تَعْثَوْا فِي الْاَرْضِ مُفْسِدِيْنَ﴾ (Al-Baqarah 2:60) — here «مُفْسِدِيْنَmufsidīna» is a circumstantial accusative (ḥāl) and emphasises «عَثِيَʿathiya».
