(ض) عَصَمَ يَعْصِمُ عَصْمًاʿaṣama yaʿṣimu ʿaṣman: to protect someone from something.
عَاصِمٌʿāṣim (active participle, ism fāʿil): protector. ﴿وَاللّٰهُ يَعْصِمُكَ مِنَ النَّاسِ﴾ (Al-Māʾidah 5:67); ﴿لَا عَاصِمَ الْيَوْمَ مِنْ اَمْرِ اللّٰهِ﴾ (Hūd 11:43)
عِصْمَةٌʿiṣmah pl. عِصَمٌʿiṣam: a means of protection, a bond. ﴿وَلَا تُمْسِكُوْا بِعِصَمِ الْكَوَافِرِ﴾ (Al-Mumtaḥanah 60:10)
Form VIII (iftiʿāl) اِعْتَصَمَ يَعْتَصِمُ اِعْتِصَامًاiʿtaṣama yaʿtaṣimu iʿtiṣāman: to hold fast to something for protection or safety. ﴿وَاعْتَصِمُوْا بِحَبْلِ اللّٰهِ جَمِيْعًا﴾ (Āl ʿImrān 3:103)
Form X (istifʿāl) اِسْتَعْصَمَ يَسْتَعْصِمُ اِسْتِعْصَامًاistaʿṣama yastaʿṣimu istiʿṣāman: to seek protection, i.e. to refrain. ﴿وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدْتُّهُۥ عَنْ نَّفْسِهِۦ فَاسْتَعْصَمَ﴾ (Yūsuf 12:32)
