ع ر ج نʿ-r-j-n
(quadriliteral, rubāʿī) — عُرْجُوْنʿurjūn pl. عَرَاجِيْنʿarājīn: the stalk of the date palm on which the cluster grows, and which, when it grows old, dries up and becomes crooked and thin. The lexicographers say it is from ʿ r j (to be crooked) and the nūn is redundant (zāʾidah). Only once in the Quran, in the simile for the moon's last station: ﴿وَالْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنَاهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتّٰى عَادَ كَالْعُرْجُوْنِ الْقَدِيْمِ﴾ (Yā Sīn 36:39) — i.e. thin, curved and yellow.
