(س) أَزِفَ يَأْزَفُ أَزَفًا وَأُزُوْفًاazifa yaʾzafu azafan wa-ʾuzūfan: to draw very near, (of time) to grow short. The lexicographers say that it conveys not mere nearness but also the pressing and urgency of that nearness, which is why this word was chosen for the Hour. ﴿أَزِفَتِ الْآزِفَةُ﴾ (An-Najm 53:57). Note: the verb form (bāb) is determined by the Quranic form itself, "أَزِفَتْazifat", which is on the pattern of فَعِلَfaʿila.
الْآزِفَةal-āzifah (feminine active participle (ism fāʿil)): that which draws near, one of the names of the Day of Resurrection. ﴿وَاَنْذِرْهُمْ يَوْمَ الْآزِفَةِ﴾ (Ghāfir 40:18). Three times in the Quran: once as a verb and twice as an active participle.
