— The bare triliteral is not used in the Quran; the lexicographers record أَرَضَتِ الأَرْضُaraḍati al-ʾarḍ (to sprout herbage) and أَرِضَتْariḍat (to be soft and fertile).
أَرْضarḍ pl. أَرَضُون وَأَرَاضِيaraḍūn wa-ʾarāḍī: earth, land; feminine by usage. In the Quran it occurs in all three senses: (1) the whole earth, (2) a particular territory, (3) the lower level.
أَرَضَةaraḍah: the worm that eats wood (termite). This is what is meant in the Quran by "دَآبَّةُ الْاَرْضِdābbatu al-ʾarḍ": ﴿اِلَّا دَآبَّةُ الْاَرْضِ تَاْكُلُ مِنْسَاَتَهُۥ﴾ (Sabaʾ 34:14)
